Chicago! Germany Called and They Want Their Archbishop Back!

You knew we were going to hear from Archbishop Cupich sooner or later.  Silence from him would just a little too good to be true.  To the rest of the countries out there seething right now, please note the Archbishop’s quote that the Church in America didn’t pick him to go. It’s not our fault. We tried to send a really great guy but he got left off the list.

I’m not going to say too much on this because, well, it’s too depressing. Lifesite did a great job presenting accurate Church teaching. I would like to address this quote though.

I think that gay people are human beings too and they have a conscience. And my role as a pastor is to help them to discern what the will of God is by looking at the objective moral teaching of the Church and yet, at the same time, helping them through a period of discernment to understand what God is calling them to at that point,” he said. “It’s for everybody. I think that we have to make sure that we don’t pigeonhole one group as though they are not part of the human family, as though there’s a different set of rules for them. That would be a big mistake.

There is really no “yet” Archbishop Cupich. God is calling them to follow the moral teaching of the Catholic Church. Simple as that. That is what’s for everybody.

I will shock and amaze my readers and say that I agree that we shouldn’t pigeonhole one group. THIS IS WHY COMMUNION FOR ACTIVE HOMOSEXUALS AND THE DIVORCED AND “REMARRIED” SHOULD HAVE NEVER ENTERED INTO THE SYNOD IN THE FIRST PLACE! We were going along merrily using the time-honored teaching of not approaching the Most Holy Eucharist with mortal sin just fine. Kaspar and crew (including America’s own Blaise Cupich) are the ones who decided to pigeonhole these two groups as “special sinners” who should be given a pass. Heck, why aren’t we just giving everyone Communion. Murderers? Fine. Ooh, and how about people who kill people with mean old guns? I mean, really, how could you deny that Archbishop Cupich? I mean, after all, their consciences are inviolable too.

Time to face it. While the faithful are quite happy to keep the teaching that, if any of us commit a moral sin, we must go to confession with right intention to receive Our Lord’s Body and Blood again.  The liberals? They just want a special pass for those with their pet sins. I’m reasonably sure that the same suggestions for “Freedom of Communion” are not going to be applied to crony capitalists bilking the little guy or someone who kills someone with a gun.    For them, a contrite confession with the resolve to sin no more will be required. No ifs, ands, or buts. For anyone committing a socially liberal sin, well, those people are special. The catholic politician advocating for abortion? They have “primacy of conscience” don’t you know!  Gag!

Do Kaspar, Cupich and their ilk think they’re helping these people and their immortal souls? All they are doing is trying to make people feel comfy with their sins. “Go and sin no more!” is not going fall off of their tongues. It’s more like “Go and sin if your poorly formed conscience makes you feel good!”

Again, people, it’s the Year of Mercy. Can we stop telling Catholics that sinning is peachy and get them to really avail themselves of God’s true mercy instead of this “I’m OK, you’re OK” fantasy some of you are peddling? We need to hear that we are sinners. We need to hear that our earthly life is short and we need to really be contrite so we can gain everlasting life with Our Lord.

This whole chapter seems applicable but especially this:

13 Make your way in by the narrow gate.   1. Read the Lifesite email and immediately thought of you, OMM. I knew you’d be right on it. Thank you- you know just what to say. I’m still recovering from reading and hearing it.

    I’ve never thought of any fellow sinner as somehow ‘deserving’ of extraordinary mercy,not needing to repent or change. But the archbishop makes it sound like some will now have that privilege.

  2. The more I see these Holy fools church of nice Boobs appointed by Francis the more I regret Benedict retirement. How did Cupich dew and Koch get through the seminary
    Kazah ab is right Smoke of Satan has infested the Western Catholic faith right up to lombardi and Roisica on the Vatican itself sad to say
    These Boobs Cupich koch and Dew should Never be allowed into the college of Cardinals. People like this in Ct
    East coast is why I joined a Maronite east rite faithful Catholic church here.

    1. I would like to point out we’ve had a whole lot of good appointments peppered with some not so good ones. Sigh! Remember, Baron is a “Francis Bishop” too. Here’s hoping for more of those appointments!

  3. Good expose of Bishop Blaise! What was the Holy Father thinking when he was appointed to Chicago? When I heard that he forbid his priests in Spokane to not participate in the March for Life there, I was totally surprised. I pray that the Synod of the Family does not go off the deep end. I don’t want Holy Mother Church to shatter into schism like the Episcopalians. Deacon Vince

      1. Wuerl is the one responsible for appointment of American bishops. Although the idea that Bergoglio did not know that Cupich is a librul heretic, is hard to believe.

    1. Man, I go back and forth on that petition. I’m trying to think back to what some of the predecessors would have done during the different meeting, councils, etc. Would withstanding have meant a walk out? In this day and age it might really send a message or let the wacky minority get their own way. Really could go either way. May the Holy Spirit guide them all!

  6. You know Cupich is denying the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius ordinations? Yeah, one of their guys who is ready to be ordained won’t be until Cupich, “get’s to know the community better”. Give me a break! The auxiliaries in Chicago know them very well and they were co-founded by Cardinal George of thrice blessed memory. Cupich just doesn’t want more proper Catholic Priests in his diocese and he will avoid them for as long as he can.

    This brings up a tangential point. What about murderers, thieves, adulterers, child molesters and embezzlers? Shed a tear, because they are too ashamed of their sins to get organized. Where is there a parish for the larcenous or the ferocious? Talk about being left out in the cold! When are their perfectly understandable tendencies and acts going to be decriminalized, hmmm? Where are the parents’ support groups, the coming out parties, the favorable court rulings? Of course, they may never have acted on these tendencies, but the thought that they have to go through life keeping their sinful tendencies and thoughts to themselves, with a vice that dare not speak its name almost makes one tear up.

    Where are the pathetic stories that would make homicide more understandable? Why of course Johnny would be a matricide. You would be too if you knew his mother. How pathetic the embezzler with a gambling problem. He too wanted to send his child to college.

    if only someone with some public relations skills could think up a name that would make this population more acceptable and help them out of the closet. Perhaps murders could be characterized as having joyful tendencies and thieves be known as givers. Surely this change of public attitude is within the realm of possibility given twenty or thirty years of relentless propaganda. The problem, of course is shame. Here we have a whole population, perhaps as many as two percent of the population who have been shamed into silence .

    In all seriousness, though, the above reflection does throw into relief a whole class of people who because they have NO SHAME ( concerning deeds and thoughts most shameful) have been able by relentless truly shameless effort to bend the culture, its laws, its jurisprudence, its entertainment, to their will. The amazing thing is that these efforts have paid off to the extent that a great many decent people have been made to feel ashamed of their own decency, to be ashamed of the country’s laws, and God’s law, too, for that matter.

    Too, this prodigious success on the part of the shameless almost makes one wonder if we have been ashamed of the gospel, for we are not having anywhere near the same effect on the culture as the shameless two percent.

    2. The ten commandments make it clear that one shall not murder, steal, (embezzle), or commit adultery. Unfortunately they don’t address child sexual abuse. They also don’t address gay marriage, marriage after divorce, birth control, IVF etc. That was all subject to interpretation by man.

      1. So sexual abuse against anyone is OK? Of course not and neither is “gay marriage”, “remarriage” after divorce, IVF, birth control, etc., etc., etc. All these subjects are under faith and morals. We’re Catholic. We don’t believe in solo scriptura no do we believe these issues of morality to be interpreted by man but by the Magisterium of the Church (either ordinary or extraordinary) and are guided by the Holy Spirit. https://www.ewtn.com/faith/teachings/papae1.htm

        1. Ok, I didn’t read the whole link but why is it you are questioning Francis? It seems to me that the link you posted says he has absolute authority. Of course, sexual abuse is not okay. That’s why I said “unfortunately”. What if a husband or wife is suffering from sexual abuse and gets divorced. Why can’t they continue to receive the sacrament if they get remarried. Who is the magisterium of the church unless it is a man? Birth control as we know it today, IVF,etc, did not exist 2000 years ago.

          1. Who’s questioning Francis? I believe the article was on Cupich. Also, read the document a little closer. Francis cannot tell me that boiling water is cold. Absolute authority on some things.

            In the Catholic Church we make promises and take vows. We also have or should have a good marriage prep time. Please note you won’t find anywhere in the vows that have the phrase “unless you blow it” in them. We are expected to honor our vows. Period. I didn’t answer for my husband when we made these vows. He made a vow to God and I made a vow to God. Please find them below.

            And, please, seriously? There was no birth control 2,000 years ago? God knows all the hairs on our heads and knew us in the womb but didn’t know we’d be facing this issue today? Here’s a reality that seems to never be taught in Catholic Schools anymore. God is outside of time. He is omniscient and omnipresent. Everything we needed to keep the Church free from error in matters of faith and morals, he gave to us at the founding of His Church. His doctrine is enduring and timeless despite all the new ways we’ve discovered to screw our souls up. God didn’t mention guns in the bible but “thou shall not kill” covers it. The name of the poison is hardly necessary. Enough with the arguments of a 10 year-old.

          2. Addressing your comment below: Let’s say your husband becomes addicted to pain killers or alcohol because he has chronic pain from an accident. Then let’s say he becomes physically and verbally abusive to you and your children. Are you telling me you would stay with him? Let’s say you don’t get divorced because it’s not allowed in your religion but move out for safety. Since you are home schooling your kids, I’m assuming he works. He has no legal compunction to provide for you and your kids UNLESS you get a divorce. What would you do? What’s more important to you? Your marriage or your kids? What would Jesus say?

          3. TT, now you’re just making an argument neither I nor the Church has made which is why I asked just what you were asking a few posts back. The Church does allow for a civil divorce to prevent abuse of self or child or to protect, say, assets if you have a husband financially ruining your family due to a drug or gambling problem or something else of that ilk. Civil divorce doesn’t end the marriage. It simply provides legal protection. You are still married in the eye’s of God. Vows have been made. Two have become one. No take backs just because the road has gotten rough an it’s not your fault. Good times and bad, sickness and health. What God has joined let no man put asunder.

          4. So God who is infallible, can’t accept that his children are not and they made a mistake. I didn’t realize he was also cruel and make one pay for that mistake for the rest of their life. I thought he was all about forgiveness and compassion.

Let’s go basic biblical and the prodigal son who has already been mentioned by some. Sin equals death. What good, loving parent green lights death? Look beyond the temporal life here, TT.

  8. Feel sorry for the Priests & Seminarians in Chicago for having Cupich as their Bishop, a 360 difference from the late Francis Cardinal George who Bishop Barron proudly called his mentor.

  10. I love the headline. It seems like Germany gives Rome heartburn every 500 years or so. In the 16th century, there was Luther. In the 11th century, the investiture controversy. In the 6th century, still problems with Germanic invaders, especially the Lombards. In the 1st century, the Germans slaughtered nine Roman legions.

    I actually met Archbishop Cupich, the only Archbishop I’ve ever met. He delivered the opening day homily at the Courage conference this past summer. He seemed so nice. As someone who is same-sex attracted, I’m glad he didn’t offer to “accompany” me on my journey. My journey back then took me places I would never want a holy man to see. The Church, in its mercy and wisdom, insisted that I come to it, just as the father welcomed the prodigal son, UPON HIS RETURN.

    There are times when we have to meet people where they are, but only to bring them to where they should be. Moses returned to Egypt, not to settle down with the Hebrews, but to BRING THEM OUT OF EGYPT.

    You don’t help sinners by being their enablers. You help them by helping them to fight their sins.
